Youth Scholarships and Grants
Scholarships
Since the Foundation’s inception, we have focused on recognizing student athletes who share characteristics and qualities important to and embodied by Troy and Baden. Each year we offer scholarship and grant opportunities to those who live, attend school or play sports in the Bainbridge Island community.
Biddle Memorial Scholarship awards college scholarships to graduating seniors living and/or attending school on Bainbridge Island who have made a particular contribution to an athletic sports team(s), club(s), or organization(s) in the form of leadership, mentorship, sportsmanship, and/or ambassadorship. The scholarships typically range between $1,000 – $2,500 per recipient.
Applicants submit a general application and are then asked to complete short answers to scholarship-specific questions, provide a letter of recommendation, and when possible, finalists participate in an interview process. Additional details regarding the application requirements, process and deadline are provided to students by the BHS counseling office during the spring of each year. Graduating Seniors access the BHS scholarship application through Naviance.

As soon as he was old enough, Baden played Little League, Mavericks Baseball, Woodward Basketball, Roots Basketball, Bainbridge Island Junior Football and BIFC/Flag Football. In fact, these sports and his teammates were his world – ours too. Troy coached, actively participated on boards, and threw himself into the world of kids’ sporting activities. Weekends were filled with games and practices, regardless of the time of year.
So many lasting friendships, amazing experiences, life lessons and laughs resulted from Baden’s participation on these teams. In other words, our family’s community grew from Baden and Troy’s involvement in these sports clubs.
While the benefits are priceless, we also know how expensive tournament play, all-stars and general participation in these activities are for families. We want to help offset registration costs for those who would otherwise have to miss out on these memorable opportunities. Privately contact us to discuss need-based grant availability.
Within months of the crash, we met with a key member of the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island (Rotary) around the kitchen counter. During this informal meeting, a partnership was forged to help launch our Biddle Memorial Scholarship program. Over the course of the next two years, their scholarship committee members helped us develop a selection process, which resulted in receiving in excess of 50 applications submitted by amazing graduating seniors our inaugural year in 2019. From this we selected and awarded scholarships to 5 outstanding student athletes. In 2020, we awarded 7 scholarships to another group of inspiring students.
In 2021, the Biddle Memorial Scholarship joined the Bainbridge High School (BHS) Scholarship Application process. Once again, and unsurprisingly, we were met with high caliber candidates for consideration. We awarded an additional 6 scholarships, for a total of 18 recipients in the first three years. Our partnership with BHS continues.
